Taylor Claman

Taylor Claman graduated from the University of Iowa in 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts (Hons) and Spanish (Hons), University Honors, and a certificate in Writing. While attending the University of Iowa, Taylor was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Iowa Honors Program. She co-founded an LGBTQ+ sorority and acted as an editor / translator for two literary magazines on campus. She also directed four plays at the University of Iowa Theatre Arts Department (two completely in Spanish), as well as saw her own play, Starfire, come to stage as a gallery production.

Before coming to work at Aust Schmiechen, Taylor worked as temporary legal writer in New York City in 2019. She was a Semi-Finalist for the Fulbright Study / Research Arts Grant 2019-2020 competition, and her co-written short film, “Lost in Tandem” was selected as a finalist for the 2019 Big Apple Film Festival and Screenplay Competition (Winter Edition).

Taylor has tried to keep herself involved in local film work, acting in short films or directing projects when she can. A few of the projects that she has acted in has been shown at or competed in the following film festivals: LA Cinefest, Muscatine Independent Film Festival, FilmScene Open Screening, Kino Klub Split Projekcijska Vecer, and Station to Station. Her most recent project, La Podredumbre (The Rot Within), was filmed completely in Spanish and is currently in its final stages of post-production. La Podredumbre (The Rot Within) is Taylor’s first film produced under her production company, Arlorosa Films.

Taylor joined the team at Aust Schmiechen because she loves learning new forms of writing, and it excites her to be able to work in a multilingual, multicultural work environment.
